The Ethyl benzoate, the Ethyl acid Ethyl ester, CAS Number is 93-89-0 and EINECS Number is 202-284-3. Ethyl benzoate is a colorless transparent liquid, insoluble in water and has a slightly fruity smell. Used for making perfume fragrances and artificial essential oils; It's also used a lot in food.

Physical properties
Appearance and properties: colorless clear liquid with aromatic smell. Slightly soluble in hot water, soluble in ethanol and ether. It's found in flue-cured tobacco leaves. Naturally occurs in peaches, pineapples and black teas.
Solubility: slightly soluble in hot water, miscible with ethanol, ethyl ether, petroleum ether, etc.

Chemical properties
1. Ethyl benzoate is relatively stable in chemical properties and hydrolyzes in the presence of caustic soda to produce benzoic acid and ethanol. Heated to 305℃ in the sealed tube, part of the decomposition occurred. Decomposition in an electric spark produces acetylene, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and a small amount of methane. In the presence of thorium oxide, it is heated to 400℃ to produce benzoic acid and ethylene. Ethyl benzoate and sodium alcohol are stable when heated to 120℃. But at 160 degrees Celsius it breaks down into sodium benzoate and ether. Benzoyl chloride and a small amount of acetyl chloride were obtained by the reaction of ethyl benzoate with chlorine at 200℃. Heated with bromine to 170~270℃ to produce benzoic acid and bromoethylene. It reacts with phosphorus pentachloride at 140℃ to form chloroethane and benzoyl chloride.

2. Ethyl benzoate reacts with lithium aluminium hydride in ether solution to form benzyl alcohol. Benzyl nitrile and ethylene are formed when heated with ammonia at about 500℃ in the presence of alumina or thorium oxide. Benzamide is produced by reaction with ammonia at 200℃. Ethyl benzoate can form crystalline complex with a variety of metal salts and tin chloride, aluminum trichloride, titanium chloride, magnesium iodide, antimony pentachloride, etc. Most of these crystalline complex are unstable and easily decomposed in air.

3. Ethyl benzoate and trifluoroacetic acid can form not only bimolecular thrillyl complex, but also trisolecular thrillyl complex of 2:1. It is formed by the formation of bimolecular-base complexes and then interacting with the ethyl benzoate molecules, rather than through the dimer of ethyl benzoate.

4. Belongs to the microtoxic category. Acute toxicity LD50 was 6500mg/kg(rat transoral).
